Happy Manu’a Cession Day 2020 In American Samoa – Manua Kashan Day is a government holiday in American Samoa. It is celebrated on 16 July, when the Manu Islands were mentioned in the United States.
When is Manu’a Cession Day?
Manua Kashan Day is a public holiday in American Samoa on July 16 every year. This holiday commemorates the islands of Manu joining American Samoa on this day in 1904.
History of Manu’a Cession Day
The Samoan Islands are an archipelago that spans the Central South Pacific region. In the 19th century Germany and the United States agreed to the partition of the islands, with the western half coming under German control, the eastern archipelago became American Samoa, an uncontrolled territory of the United States on 17 April 1900. At that time the high chiefs of the Manuvadis did not wish to stop their group of islands and fell out of the agreement.
In 1904 King Tui Manua Elisara of Manu took an oath of allegiance to the United States and signed a succession to eliminate the Manua Islands as a protector of the United States.
Celebrated on 16 July as Manuka Session Day, it was not made a public holiday until 1983, when the first official celebration was held in the Manua Islands with church service, parades, and cultural activities.
